Judging Panel #4!

Hello Models!

In the spirit of Friday the 13th for the Final 13, this week you shot 2 creeeeepy Halloween inspired photoshoots. In one, a sexy vampire! In the other, a lonely ghost determined to push through the walls to their lover on the other side! And may I just say once again, you guys killed it this week! [/bad pun]

Nigel, Firebolt and Wendy had prior engagements this week so could not make it for Judging, but Bree, Karasu and I have our Judging Pants tightly fastened, so never fear!

STEVIE, you are first!

VAMPIRE:


SweetTyra: Ooooh Im lovin the connection with the eyes, very strong and powerful. I really like the movement towards the camera as well, it is very intimidating. Dont take offense to this, but sometimes you come off as a little dorky, but I am loving the sexy side of Stevie we are seeing here!
Karasu: I don't know if this really says vampire. I actually see an emo band cover XD. I do like that you finally look like a model though. The eye connection is great.
Bree: The eyes are WONDERFUL, and I do get vampire from this. My question is whether or not the bodypositioning is a little cheesy, a bit too obvious selling the coat.


GHOST:


Bree: This is definitely a risk that went a bit too far. If you're going to have your limps along the wall, look at a picture like Jeraldo's original ghost - how his leg was extended and his foot was planted on the wall so perfectly. This is quite sloppy and you held your face in a way that hides your features.
Karasu: Love the emotion here, but its not really modelesque. I think there is way too much going on and your limbs are chopped off
SweetTyra: I appreciate what you were going for, but I dont think it worked out as well as it could have. It looks too acted, too "movie screen-cap" and just not fashion enough. You pushed the emotion in the face too far in all of your shots. And guys how many times do we gotta say it- DONT CHOP OFF YOUR LIMBS, YO!!!



OREGON:

VAMPIRE:


Karasu: Karasu: I'm on the fence with this one. I like that you finally have a different facial expression, but i'm not sure its exactly modelesque. The pose is fantastic though.
Bree: Again, this is a risk that may have gone too far.You've held your body at a really strang angle so that your waist and limbs look tiny, but yourshoulders and head look HUGE. I also think the snarl could have been more model-y, youknow? But I do admire the risk.
SweetTyra: I kinda of like this and kind of dont. Its a pretty cool shot, but I dont think it would work in a campaign. I like the shapes of your nose and mouth, but your arm and torso look a little misproportioned and strange. You kinda look like a circus freak haha. I do like that it is risky and something unexpected, but it doesnt completely work for this shoot.


GHOST:


Bree: Same face, same face, same face. You're lucky that in this scenario, it actually works. Good body, but your outfit is too common.
Karasu: AGain with the confused face =/. I would've liked to see more creativity to go along with the pose
SweetTyra: I really like the colour scheme here! Its really clean and that makes it a little more eerie. I like the body, I like the face, although I wouldve liked to have felt more power or passion. But good shot!



MIKIEL:

Bree: WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW. No negatives.
SweetTyra: Haha youre like the upper class east side king vamp, hey. I really like this shot. Its powerful, but not the same kind of BAM fierce face powerful we are used to seeing from you, its a little softer but is still quite strong. I love the lighting effect to the right, it looks a little smokey, which adds a really nice eerie element to this. Great shot!
Karasu: This is again a little too feminine. I know that sometimes you want to go for androgyny, but theres a way to do it without looking too ott. Just try to tone it down next time.

GHOST:


Karasu: Now this I like; you are doing a great job at setting a depressing mood. It kinda reminds me of my emotions shot.
Bree: Two weeks ago I urged you to pull it b ack. Last week I thought you pulled it back too much. This week you have the perfectbalance of vulnerability, sadness, and MODEL!! Everything baout this is graceful - your hand on the wall, your feet, your face.And I LOVE the silhouette that's been created.
SweetTyra: As a fashion shot, I think this fails. But I love it as an artistic photography shot. I really like how it looks like the shadow of your head and your face are portraying totally different expressions, really interesting. Its a really nice shot, but you are hiding most of the outfit and scrunching your body up, so it is not really suitable for fashion.



JONO:


VAMPIRE:


SweetTyra: The feathers have returned!! Haha. I remember your film being ridiculously OTT. The simplicity works here as opposed to you flailing your arms everywhere and trying to do weird poses and shapes. which didnt quite work. I think there is something missing in your eyes, but what ISNT missing is the real creepy horror vibe, its really cool, I really love your quirky style.
Karasu: I'm not sure what you were going for here to be completely honest. The facial expression is just odd because it doesnt really fit the theme at all. I wouldve liked to see a fiercer side of you. Every week you go for the quirky creative pose/expression, just change it up a little.
Bree: Powerful? Fo sho. Sexy? Well... this is definitely YOUR style of sexy. It is quite unique,like you are. I'm confusedabout the feathers... were you trying to hide your nips? Anyway, I do like the meek pose, but I think you still could have had a bit more power in that meekness.


GHOST:


Karasu: lovveeeee this picture. My only negative is that you have the same facial expression as the vampire one. The legs are KeWl
SweetTyra: You got an amazing location, great choice. The grainy picture quality fits in greatly with the mood as well. I really like the fluidity in the legs, the pointed toes, it almost feels like you are floating. Either that or a sense of exhaustion from trying to fly through walls all day and you are just ready to give up haha. I like it!!
Bree: Dang yo, amazing body, but your face disappoints me. You seem to be able to give very few expressions, and you often resort to Melancholy/Puppy Dog. It's adorable, but we need fierceness from you - fast!

SweetTyra: LOVE this shot!!! I think this may almost be the best we have ever seen from you! When you sent your pics in you said, "Prepare to be scared and scarred" and I though oh gawd, here we go, Jonnys gonna go porno on us again. Which you kinda almost did it a few haha. But Im really enjoying your film at the moment, because we get the good old OTT Jonny who is over posing and almost makes it look like a mockery, but then there are a few there that are just really serious and surprisingly simple and powerful, and this is one of those. Love it!
Karasu: Karasu: This is really really amazing!!!!!!! You look like eric from true blood, and he is the best vampire ever xD. I'm glad you are finally giving us week one jonny from cycle 3.
Bree: Another guy who pulled it back, hooray! Very few negatives - none with the face. I love the way your hair framed your eye. I would say for next time, relax your shoulders a bit more and pull your head up juuuuust a bit to lengthen your neck. Great job.


GHOST:



Bree: Well the good thing about this picture is you managed to not make yourself look as short as you have in past weeks, but I still feel as though you need to elongate more. I think you need better poster. You also have a tendency to pull things in (i.e. your left leg in this picture) in hopes of creating a model-pretzel, but it's really making you a model-munchkin.
SweetTyra: Didnt you pay attention to Jono the other week? Cluttered backgrounds lead to INTM death! I really like this shot, this has been a good week for you, dude! Im going to echo what I said before and praise you for your raw emotion and simplicity, its a lot more powerful than some of your more theatrical attempts.

Bree: GORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR-JUSSSS! INCREDIBLE. BEST OF THE CYCLE. WOW.
Karasu: Karasu: See this is where androgyny works. I'm loving how savage you look. I think your the only one who followed the brief perfectly.
SweetTyra: Aaaaahhhh *melts* Now this is frickin SEXXXYYYYYY! What more can I say, you nailed it! Creepy and sexy at the same time. I could see this as an ad for Cologne. Great stuff. Someone pass me a glass of icy water, please!!!

GHOST:


Bree: I'm glad you didn't do something similar to your C2 ghost picture - you went completely in the other direction. You actually LOOK like a floating ghost, which is AMAZING, and you're using your body lines to sell the outfit - HELLA sell it!! It's funny because I'm always used to you doing something quirky with your limbs, and you proved that when you just leave 'em alone you're amazing as well!
SweetTyra: Oooooh wow, it looks like you are floating! The effect you have created here with your body is really cool. However, I do feel that as a whole, this picture is a little...stale. I dunno what it is, it kinda seems expressionless, or maybe its just the composition. But yeah love the floating effect, its genius!
Karasu: woah totally trippy. I dont even know how you did that lol. I disagree with leigh; the lack of emotion works here because you are supposed to be a ghost. ghosts dont have emotions.


COZY:


VAMPIRE:


Bree: This is great eye communication. I DO think that this is a bit too "obvious," and costumey-vampire as opposed to the other amazing ones which were kind of raw and dirty.
Karasu: I do like that you tried to look like a vampire(unlike some others), but i agree with bree it looks too literal. Maybe blood on your face or a different expression wouldve helped?
SweetTyra: Oooh Hello!! Sexyyyy! I really like what you did with the glass of "blood", very original. Really nice styling, although I agree about the obviousness, and great connection with your eyes, as always! Definitely impressive and intimidating!


GHOST:


SweetTyra: LOOOOVEEE ITTTTTTTT!!! Oh my lord this shot is amazing. UHHH-MAY-ZING!!! This is definitely in my top 5 for this cycle!!! I love the styling, the rose, the shapes, the pained expression, Im really feeling the story. BRILLIANT!!! YES!
Karasu: you look CRAZY!!! in a good way, not a shopping cart lady way xD. I don't have any negatives; I think this is the cozy we all know and love. I hope you keep it up.
Bree: Far better than your vampire picture! You were able to have a graceful pose in such a narrow place! I think your upper-body comesoff as realllly long and the lower body is almost there.

Bree: Yay, someone's going out of his shell. Great profile!! Great sexy eyes. You give us something different every week.
Karasu: You just keept getting better and better each week. This is really fantastic, i could see it being in a magazine.
SweetTyra: Oooooh very nice!!! I love that although a lot of skin is showing, it does not feel overtly sexual or scandalous at all. Styling is fantastic. And finally the guys are starting to get really creative with the makeup, and making it look professional, its great!


GHOST:


Bree: Another good shot. You're made your body look very broad. I don't know about the arm up over your head because with such a wide stance you look at little... spaghetti arms. But you REALLY sold that there outfit!
SweetTyra: This seems oddly familiar haha. You have given us two profile pics in the same week.I cant decide whether that really is a bad thing or not, coz I think this shot is great as well. Is that black paint in your armpit? haha. Great shapes and good styling, again. Well done.

SweetTyra: I dont see vampire at ALL! I get the sex appeal, it is a very sexy, Italian Stallion kinda shot that will get the ladies buying lots of the cologne you are selling for their boyfriends, who will go through a bottle a week because they spray themselves way too frickin much in an attempt to suffocate everyone else out of the country haha. But anyway, nothing about this is remotely suggesting a vampire, not even the red/orange tinge! I loved your film last week because it looked like you were starting to let go and relax and not be so over the top, but this week there were way too many Blue Steel moments, making this shot seem like a lucky one.
Bree: Booo-ring! You need a dose of creativity!
Karasu: Oi this is really bad. Every week we tell you that you have to get more creative and every week your pictures are boring.


GHOST:


SweetTyra: This is really soft! But I will say the same I said above- lucky shot? This was the only one I even considered choosing, because the others were just way too squinty and forced. And once again, I really dont think you got creative enough with your styling or your poses. You really need to step it up and spend more time prepping yourself!
Bree: I like the face very much, and I think the body is good. But like Cozy's vampire, it's a bit too "obvious." I also think, like Oregon, the clothes drag you down. It's a bit too high school.
Karasu: This looks like you took the picture within 5 minutes. There's no effort put into it. You didnt even try to look creepy, you just look boring =/.


AVESS:

VAMPIRE:


SweetTyra: Ooooh. Oh my god yes I love it! The snarl the makeup, the hand. The background and the way youve used the lighting should also be highly commended, because it just works so well! I think you did maybe forget about the sex appeal part and just took the opportunity to be full out weird and creepy, but its a good shot nonetheless.
Bree: Dayum!! Commanding! I'd do ya. Hell, I'd even pay. I kind of wish you hadn't used the contacts though. I mean, they're a great effect, but I thin they might be doing some of the work for you with your eye intensity. But Ilove your hand and the slight snarl. You're also sexy WITH your clothes on.
Karasu: Props to being one of the few who actually look like vampires. I think you are perfect for the edgy side of modeling (totally doesnt make sense, but you get what im saying). This is just another great example of that.


GHOST:


Karasu: Not up to your usual standards. I think the costume looks great, but you look uncomfortable and all the clutter is distracting.
Bree: Amazing body, but your eyes are a bit too worried for my liking. But you really made your limbs look great. Nice socks.
SweetTyra: Its always so interesting to see what you come up with! The way you have styled yourself is really inventive and eye catching. Im a little unsure about the body, I think you squished it too much, but I love the idea, it is very animalistic.

Karasu: Holy crap this is awesome!! I think you got the sexy part down, but the vampire part not so much. I still think its a great picture though.
SweetTyra: I like the attitude here. I think your right eye looks a little wonky though, I dunno what it is, maybe its the lack of shadowing on your nose and cheek. Nice styling though.
Bree: Great shot! We're used to high fashion from you and this is a bit commercial, but it's actually a really nice change. Your eyes look a little naughty. Like Avess, you proved that you don't have to be naked to be sexy. Your eyes do the sexin'!


GHOST:


SweetTyra: HOOOOLY MOTHER YES!!! Fan-fucking-tastic!!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this!!!! Woweee. Possibly the best of the Cycle. Yeah I went there. That is all.
Karasu: My only problem with this picture is that you are too far away; your pose is amazing i just wish i could see your face. Oh and i would totally hang this on my wall, it looks like a painting!!
Bree: OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!!
Words cannot describe how beautiful this is. You look like an angel. As for the comment that it's too far away, I don't think that matters. You can see your face from so far away, and it's so soft and angelic that the emotions reach all the way down the hall.

Karasu: 0.0 this is wicked cool. I'm loving that you look like a newly turned vampire(the bite marks on the neck are awesome) that is out for blood.
SweetTyra: I really like this shot! You are pushing through so much 'tude here and although I think you may have tried a biiit too hard to try and be sexy, it still kinda works in a quirky kinda way. Just watch getting a bit of a double chin as a result of not extending your neck, though.
Bree: Ehhh.

Karasu: whaoaoaoah so many angles, i'm confused at where up or down is xD. This is really cool, I love the theme here. You are sad because you can't escape the room. oh yeah you look like jonny here o.0
SweetTYra: Yeah, because of the way you have rotated the picture, it has made this shot really interesting! It kinda feels like the walls are closing in on you, or you are falling into an abyss, it has such a fantastical element to it. I kinda wish your eyes were open though, because it almost doesnt seem deliberate.
Bree: Ehhh.

Bree, that was kind of rude of you. I can't lie, it upsets me that you weren't even willing to take the time to point out what made my shot "ehh" so that I could avoid it if I make it to next week. I want a critique, not just criticism.

Chantal's picture is definitely amazing!! First call out looks like it may be going to Jared haha. With Chantal coming in second.

i hate to be THAT person, and i hate to sound like ballard. or jade. i may regret posting this but i feel like being honest

panel is a bit of a shambles this week, in my opinion. the fact that some judges couldn't even do it after everyone (bar ava) sent in two very well thought out photoshoots is kind of rude, to me.

and now onto personal complains... leigh i know we talked about my going over the top but ... i rocked that vampite shoot, in my own opinion at least and i had plenty of interesting shots to choose from. i'd like to know why you think that shot was better than the 8 others i sent in, even if they were outside the box. that's me. it's my style. as for my ghost photo, eh, it's also not my best but it's not the worst i sent in either so i'm not too fussed. i agree about the weakness in the face but i had at least one other photo with a good body and a good (and creepy face). i think that would have been better to use.

i hate how i sound at the moment. i'm aware of it. but i need to get this out. i feel like i did well this week. these sorts of shot are my forte, i guess. so the fact that those pictures were chosen doesn't reflect my personal views on my performance. that's the danger of having one person to choose each thing.

i'm thinking of quitting this week. most of the judges can't be bothered by the looks of it anyway. bree and leigh are usually a lot more descriptive. i know it's been complicated with people this week but i just don't feel like there's much effort going on here anymore.

Will Ava and Chris please step forward. I only have one set of photos in my hands. The name of the model I do not call is no longer in the running towards becoming IMDBs Next Top Model.

Chris, you have been steadily improving so far this cycle and it has also been a steady incline on from your last attempt in Cycle 4. However, the judges are worried that although your modeling skills are developing, your creativity is diminishing. If you cant produce a picture that is interesting to look at, no amount of impressive modeling will save the picture or you.

Ava, you failed to submit a shoot this week. This was a shame because you have had some very strong pictures this cycle and are beginning to improve immensely. The judges feel that if you had submitted a picture, you would have stayed, and probably stayed in the competition for a long time. Could your past performances save you?

Honestly Erik, I take a LOT of time to do my critiques, yours was the LAST we got, and I have been in my house all of maybe three waking hours in the past three days due to term papers and my showcase.
I wanted my comments to be included and honestly, I thought your pictures were simply very "ehh," no wow-factor, very little model. Apparently I'm the only judge who thought so. Better than last week, but not one of the stronger ones. Like really, it's not a big friggin' deal.
